The Dalai Lama is weird. He wanted autonomy but recognized China in handling Tibet's affairs. I think the Dalai Lama should stop his people from getting into violence. China is just doing it as the recognized entity to rule over its country, as Tibet is part of it.
Though I like the idea of being free, I think the Dalai Lama is being a smart ass as China will be hosting the Olympics. Why just now? He could have done those ages ago.
It’s like the situation at Mindanao where some Muslims wanted autonomy. But having Mindanao as part of the Philippines, it’s governed by its rules. One of the rules is to maintain order by suppressing some acts by the people who would break the law.
I think thats makes sense for now.
